Web 2.0: An exciting movement away from static webpages to dynamic and shareable content

Web 2.0 refers to the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These second generation web tools such as blogs, wikis, podcasts give us a great chance to engage and motivate our students. We have to adapt ourselves to the rapidly changing technologies in order to create an effective learning environment for our learners. Here are some good links for you to get some information about Web 2.0 tools for teaching. You can also find a  video about Web 2.0 in my VodPods.

http://eflcourse.wikispaces.com/ This is a site that provides EFL or ESL students with enough technical knowledge to use the internet independently to study. I thought it could be a good resource for teachers as well.

“What should we call these “new” students of today? Some refer to them as the N-[for Net]-gen or D-[for digital]-gen. But the most useful designation I have found for them is Digital Natives. Our students today are all “native speakers” of the digital language of computers, video games and the Internet.”

Marc Prensky -from the article “Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants”

My next post will be about Marc Prensky who is an internationally acclaimed speaker, writer, consultant, and designer in the critical areas of education and learning.

He makes me think about the way I teach, question the methods I use and gives me inspiration to learn more and more..
