Does Shift Happen in Our Minds?

I came across this video via Twitter. (Tweeted by @captic) I’m always fascinated by facts and stats about the changing world. This video is an official update to the original “Shift Happens” video.

Well… The shift happens, and it happens so fast. As an educator and a parent, my question is “Does shift happen in our minds?” Yes, it happens in our minds but not as fast as it should be. Making this shift happen in the minds  looks like the biggest challenge of our age in terms of creating better teaching and learning environments. In my opinion, the education authorities and school leaders must develop revolutionary strategies considering the effects of these changes on student profile. These strategies should prioritize teacher training and support in order to effectively leverage technology in support of student achievement.

After watching the video, you can visit the  Shift Happens wiki and join the conversation. I also highly sugggest you to read the article called “Shift Happens- Now What?” by Stephanie Sandifer.

  • I guess it does happen (even in education) although sometimes I feel like that shift is happening at the rate mountains move.

When you step back though and see the shift that has occurred within a classroom as well as all supporting elements it’s definitely happening and it’s happening faster than it feels at times.

and thanks for the video – I remember the first one, but hadn’t seen this yet.

  • Very enlightening video Burcu! It is hard to realize how fast the world is changing and the great extent to which this affects each one of us. What did not surprise me, though, was the amount of text messages sent by teenagers! :-)
